Rangiroa

And his Tiputa pass

Rangiroa is the capital of the Tuamotu Islands, known for :

Its heavenly lagoon

Rangiroa is an atoll, so there is no relief or mountains, but instead a large lagoon full of fish. 2 places in the lagoon are a must for lovers of postcard scenery: Lagon Bleu and Île aux Récifs, both accessible by boat.

His tank dives

Rangiroa is world-famous for scuba diving, with one of the most beautiful passes on the planet: Tiputa. As well as being able to observe species such as manta rays, leopard rays, grey sharks, great hammerheads and tiger sharks, you can frequently come across the pass's sedentary bottlenose dolphins. The pass is accessible for 1st level divers only, but not for beginners.

Coral wine: a local curiosity!

A wine is produced locally on Rangiroa, called coral wine, which comes in all colors. It may not be the best wine in the world, but producing it is a real technical feat. The vines grow on coral and sand. The vineyard cannot be visited, but it is possible to taste the wine in the cellar.

Atypical accommodations

There are two extremes here on Rangiroa: the luxury hotel with its stilts and private pool villas; and the Robinson Crusoe wilderness guesthouse with no hot water or electricity, but nestled in a paradise-like setting surrounded by an emerald lagoon!

RANGIROA, the atoll for you?

The favorite atoll of divers and for a short experience in the Tuamotus

In addition to its three magnificent lagoons (Blue Lagoon, Reef Island and Green Lagoon), the atoll is home to the famous Tiputa pass. Depending on the season, you can observe hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, leopard rays and, above all, the famous bottlenose dolphins. These dolphins often come to play with divers, giving them an experience of rare emotion. Encountering this mammal in its natural environment without forcing any contact: a magical moment.

Rangiroa also has the advantage of a direct air connection to Bora Bora. So it's the ideal choice for travelers who want to experience the Tuamotus without making getting around more complicated.

Accommodation in RANGIROA

On this atoll, you won't find an unlimited supply of accommodations, but some styles may suit you better than others:

  • 4-star hotels: the Kia Ora Resort & Spa has a beach area (which is not always the case in Rangiroa) and attractive room categories: private pool villa, bungalow on stilts...
  • Standard 3-star hotels: Hotel Maitai offers a simple yet comfortable experience overlooking the beach.
  • Guesthouses: there are a number of guesthouses to choose from, ranging from the most upscale (coconut lodge) to the most rustic (punua and moana). however, there is also a wider range of intermediate comfort options: Pension Cécile, Relais Joséphine, Raira Lagon, Va'a i te Moana, Tehvahine Dream, Moana Breeze...
