Raiatea

Sacred Island

Raiatea is a Polynesian must-see on the Society Islands:

His hikes

Raiatea may not be beach-oriented, but its mountains and valleys are what make it so famous. Walkers and hikers will appreciate the 3 waterfalls trail, which plunges you into the heart of the jungle, or the more ambitious Mont Temehani hike, which offers a view of the island and a botanical discovery: the last bushes of Tiare Apetahi.

His tank dives

The island of Raiatea is the ideal choice for diving enthusiasts. Several sites offer atypical underwater exploration: the Norbdy wreck dive, the coral rose slope (level 2 minimum), the passes...

His culture

On this island, you'll discover iconic sites of Polynesian culture and history. The Taputapuatea Marae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an emblematic and sacred site for Polynesians.

2 islands in 1 stay : Raiatea and Taha'a

Raiatea is one of the only islands in Polynesia that you can combine with its sister island Taha'a, without changing accommodations. A day trip from Raiatea to Taha'a is easy, as the 2 islands are close to each other and share the same lagoon. And yet, they look nothing alike. Taha'a is much more lagoon-oriented than Raiatea.

RAIATEA, the island for you?

The island for land & culture lovers

No public beach on this island, but wild and unforgettable hikes! For mountain lovers, it's a must. A number of excellent gourmet restaurants have also set up shop here, which will delight the palates of many an explorer! Raiatea is also an island rich in legends and the cradle of Polynesian history.

The island's major attractions include hiking trails (3 waterfalls and Mont Temehani), a river that can be navigated by kayak or boat, a covered market, the Taputapuatea marae and botanical garden. The lagoon and its motu are also worth a visit, even if you're not into the "paradise beaches" theme.
