Bora Bora

The pearl of the Pacific

The best-known island in French Polynesia, it is not the most visited for no reason:

Its beaches and motu

There's just one public beach, Matira Beach, which is very extensive and beautifully oriented towards the sunset. But apart from this beach you'll find various private beaches and the numerous motu (islets) made entirely of sand along the coral reef.

Luxury accommodation on stilts

The world's first hotel on stilts was born here in Bora Bora. It has since become an emblem not only of the island, but of Polynesia in general. Whether 3, 4 or 5 stars, the bungalows and suites on stilts offer unique, luxurious experiences and unrivalled proximity to the lagoon.

Its lagoon and its thousand shades of blue

It's the difference in depth of the Bora Bora lagoon that gives these unique nuances: 5m drop-offs follow 30m drop-offs and so on. Navy blue, azure, clear, transparent - these are just some of the terms that could be used to describe the color of the lagoon, depending on its depth. The higher up you go, the more visible this phenomenon becomes (when hiking, 4x4 or quad biking to viewpoints, or when flying over in a helicopter).

Snorkeling potential

Its lagoon is rich in fish. Snorkelers can enjoy coral gardens, blacktip shark spots, a manta ray spot... and many other discoveries.

BORA BORA, an island made for you?

In search of Polynesia's most beautiful lagoons

Bora Bora is the pearl of the Pacific. Known the world over for its extraordinary lagoons, we have to admit that dreams do indeed equal reality. The most beautiful hotels have settled here, and not without reason: the shades of blue are absolutely incredible. You start with transparent water, then in a fraction of a second you're in turquoise, then the ground sinks and you're in royal blue. For those on a tighter budget, contrary to its reputation as the world's most expensive island, there are a number of budget options to help you enjoy Bora Bora at the best possible price.

No matter where you stay on Bora Bora, you shouldn't leave the island without discovering its land and lagoon highlights: snorkeling spots, American heritage with its old cannons, viewpoints, sarong workshops. I always like to recommend a full 4×4 or quad tour for the mountain side and a pirogue tour to explore the lagoon and enjoy a lazy moment on a motu (islet). Water sports enthusiasts will not be outdone: parasailing, jetskiing, scootering, scuba diving...

Accommodation on BORA BORA

Accommodation on Bora Bora is mostly budget or luxury:

  • 5-star sup: The Four Seasons and Saint-Régis are the two palace-level establishments for the most demanding travelers or those seeking the most exclusive experience.
  • 5-star hotels: Conrad Bora Bora Nui, Westin and Intercontinental Thalasso offer the ultimate luxury experience on Bora Bora.
  • 4-star sup: Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts offers magnificent bungalows on stilts and garden and beach villas with private pool
  • 4-star hotels: Intercontinental le Moana is the only luxury hotel located on the main island rather than on a motu, making it easier to visit the island independently.
  • 3-star hotels: the Royal Bora Bora hotel is a great budget option on the island, with its garden rooms, or the Maitai Polynesia, with its rooms and beach bungalow and stilt options at affordable prices.
  • 2-star accommodation: Hotel Matira is not brand-new, but is ideally located on Matira Point, with spacious bungalows.
  • Guesthouses: There are very few guesthouses that meet our quality standards on this island, but the nono guesthouse, although old, is wonderfully located on Matira beach. Bora Bora Holiday's Lodge is further from the beach, but a great option in the mountains with family homes.
  • Rentals: for unparalleled peace and quiet away from the tourist hustle and bustle, the Tiki House offers a truly authentic experience.
